Help Shape Foristell’s Next 10 Years Through the Comprehensive Plan Survey

Foristell is planning for its future—and community members are being asked to help shape it.

The City of Foristell is developing a new Comprehensive Plan that will provide guidance for residential, commercial and industrial growth while identifying areas the community believes should be preserved.

With Foristell’s population reportedly doubling during the past decade, decisions made through this planning process could influence how the community develops for years to come.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range guide for a community’s physical development and use of land. Missouri law requires municipalities that regulate property through zoning to maintain such a plan.

Although it does not approve a particular development, the plan can guide future decisions involving:

Comprehensive plans should be reviewed and updated periodically—ideally about once every 10 years—so they continue to reflect current conditions and community priorities.

Why the survey matters

The City says public participation will be an important part of developing the plan.

That process is expected to include the community survey, ongoing meetings with the Planning & Zoning Commission, stakeholder interviews and town hall meetings.

The goal is to create a plan shaped not only by professional analysis and public officials, but also by the people who live, work, own property and operate businesses in and around Foristell.

Survey responses will help identify critical issues affecting Foristell’s growth and preservation during the next decade. Most questions ask participants to rate planning-related issues on a scale from one to five, with one representing the lowest level of importance and five representing the highest.

When completing the survey, residents may want to consider questions such as:

There may not be one answer shared by everyone. That is precisely why broad community participation is important.

Make your priorities known

A Comprehensive Plan is most useful when it reflects the priorities of the community it is intended to serve. Taking a few minutes to complete the survey gives residents, property owners, business owners and other stakeholders an opportunity to place their concerns and recommendations into the public planning process.
