Monday marks the beginning of a new school year for many local students, families, teachers and staff members.
As everyone settles back into their routines, drivers should expect additional traffic around schools, bus stops and neighborhood streets. Please leave a little extra time, slow down and stay alert—especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
Watch carefully for:
- Children walking or biking to school
- Students waiting near bus stops
- School buses stopping to load and unload passengers
- Crossing guards and reduced-speed school zones
- Parents entering and leaving school parking lots
- New drivers traveling to and from high school
Remember to stop when a school bus displays flashing red lights and extends its stop arm. Avoid distracted driving, put down your phone and be prepared for sudden stops.
