West Meyer Road Improvements: Final Phase Planned Between Highway W and Wentzville Parkway

St. Charles County is moving forward with the final phase of long-term improvements to West Meyer Road, including wider lanes, paved shoulders, safety improvements, better drainage and a new shared-use path connection to Oglesby Park.

Another significant infrastructure project is planned for the growing area surrounding Foristell.

St. Charles County’s West Meyer Road project represents the final phase of long-term improvements along West Meyer Road between Highway W and Wentzville Parkway.

The project is designed to improve safety, roadway conditions, drainage and connectivity along the corridor as western St. Charles County continues to develop.

What Is Planned?

According to St. Charles County, the proposed improvements include:

  • Widening the driving lanes and adding paved shoulders
  • Improving sight distance and safety by reducing the severity of steep hills
  • Defining roadside ditches to improve stormwater runoff
  • Adding a shared-use path extending from the bridge to Oglesby Park

Together, the improvements are intended to modernize a roadway that serves an increasingly important connection through this portion of St. Charles County.

Connecting More Than Cars

One particularly notable part of the project is the proposed shared-use path.

The path is planned to extend from the bridge to Oglesby Park, creating an additional connection for pedestrians and cyclists while expanding the area’s transportation infrastructure beyond vehicle traffic alone.

As residential and commercial growth continues westward, projects that incorporate pedestrian and bicycle connectivity can help establish infrastructure for the community that is developing around them.

How Is the Project Being Funded?

The project is funded through the St. Charles County 1/2-Cent Transportation Sales Tax, along with a grant from the Federal Highway Administration Surface Transportation Program.

St. Charles County previously held an online public comment period for the project from July 22 through August 5, 2024.

The County’s published schedule called for design work to be completed in 2024, easement and right-of-way acquisition to take place throughout 2025, and construction to begin in early 2026.

The County’s project page, last noted as updated November 26, 2024, stated that right-of-way and easement acquisition was beginning and that final construction plans would be updated by the design consultant, Oates Associates. Bidding was anticipated for early 2026 or once the necessary right-of-way had been cleared.

Because that published project update predates the anticipated construction period, dates and construction timing should be considered subject to change.

Why We’re Following It

West Meyer Road provides an important connection between Highway W and Wentzville Parkway, placing this project within the broader transportation network serving Foristell and western St. Charles County.

Road projects like this are about more than pavement. They can influence how residents travel, how surrounding properties develop, how safely different parts of the community connect and how the area accommodates future growth.

Explore Foristell will continue following the West Meyer Road project as additional construction information and updates become available.
