Major I-70 Traffic Changes Coming at Route Z Beginning September 9

Drivers traveling east on Interstate 70 from the Foristell area should prepare for another significant traffic change as construction continues on the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced that the eastbound I-70 exit ramp to Route Z (Exit 209) will close for approximately 30 days beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 9.

During the closure, crews will work to connect newly constructed pavement to Interstate 70 and the Route Z exit ramp. (Missouri Department of Transportation)

Eastbound Lanes Will Shift and Narrow

A second major change is scheduled to begin just a few days later.

Starting overnight at 9 p.m. Monday, September 14, crews will shift all eastbound I-70 lanes to the left near Route Z.

The lanes will also be narrowed to approximately 10 feet wide.

MoDOT expects the new configuration to be in place for the morning commute on Tuesday, September 15, and it is expected to remain in place through spring 2027. (Missouri Department of Transportation)

Foristell residents who regularly travel east toward Wentzville, O’Fallon, St. Peters and the greater St. Louis area should anticipate tighter lanes and potentially slower traffic through the construction zone.

What Drivers Should Know

Part of the $600 Million I-70 Project

The Route Z work is part of the Improve I-70: Warrenton to Wentzville project, a $600 million design-build project covering approximately 20 miles of Interstate 70.

The project will reconstruct and improve I-70 between Warrenton and Wentzville while ultimately adding a third travel lane in each direction.

Construction on this section of the statewide I-70 improvement program is currently expected to be completed by the end of 2028. (Missouri Department of Transportation)

The overall statewide Improve I-70 program will add a third lane in each direction along nearly 200 miles of I-70 between Blue Springs and Wentzville. (Missouri Department of Transportation)

For Foristell residents, the construction will continue to have a direct impact on daily travel as major improvements move through the western St. Charles County corridor.

Explore Foristell will continue to share construction updates and traffic changes that affect Foristell residents, businesses and commuters.
